Cody Wertman

Cody is a recent graduate of Kutztown University, where he studied Organismal Biology and Ecology.

During college, Cody needed to gain experience in the animal field. His advisor told him about Red Creek Wildlife Center stating it would be an excellent opportunity to grow professionally and as an individual. In 2015, Cody joined Red Creek’s volunteer staff as a level one intern. When his internship was completed, Cody stayed on, regularly volunteering in between college classes and his employment at a local church.

In 2016, he was promoted to a Level 2 internship, a management program where he developed valuable leadership skills. He gained knowledge in advanced animal care as well as public education.

Last summer, Cody conducted research in Ohio studying the impact of windmills on bat populations.

Cody’s future goal is a career in wildlife biology or as a conservation manager. While he searches for future opportunities, he is back at Red Creek and volunteers each day, Monday thru Thursday. Here he is continuously fielding phone calls, taking care of the animals, creating educational displays, and helping with enclosure repairs.

Cody enjoys spending his free time playing video games and playing with his pit-bull puppy Luna.

Cody is a devoted advocate for animals and the natural world around us. With responsible and dedicated individuals like Cody leading the way, the future of conservation is bright indeed.
