Pennsylvania has nine species of bats. Three of these migrate through and don’t hibernate in PA. Like any migratory animal, some individuals have a hard time during migration. They lose weight, become weak and can’t go on. One bat species that migrates is the Silver Haired Bat, and one individual was admitted to Red Creek this week. It was stabilized and given fluids right away.
Because animals benefit from rehabbers working together, this bat was transferred to the PA Bat Rescue in Berks, one of Pennsylvania’s newest rehab centers. Steph Stronsick is well prepared to over-winter a silver-haired bat if that is what this little one needs
